Carlos Vega

Contemporary Realism

Contemporary realism, far from being a simple extension of academic painting, is in direct dialogue with photography, Pop Art and institutional criticism. Vega, by depicting trivial objects such as museum bags or scenes of tourists taking pictures, questions what deserves to be painted and how we perceive images today. Through his paintings, Vega pays homage to the great masters, but also sharply questions the viewer about the role of art in a world saturated with empty stimuli.
