For her first solo exhibition at Duque Arango, Alejandra Aristizábal traces the path of fique from the field to the studio. Artisans extract, wash and comb this Andean fibre, traditionally woven into sacks used to transport Colombian coffee. Aristizabal binds the strands together to give her sculptures and textile installations their volume and rhythm. For the artist, returning to this gesture is a way to reconnect with Colombia.
