Biography

Guillermo Muñoz Vera

Guillermo Muñoz Vera (Concepción, Chile, 1956) is a Chilean-Spanish painter recognized for his contributions to contemporary realism and figurative painting. His work combines traditional oil painting techniques with an exploration of light, space, and the representation of reality, establishing a dialogue between European pictorial traditions and Latin American landscapes and culture.

Muñoz Vera began his artistic training at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Chile in 1973, where he also served as an assistant drawing instructor. In 1980, he moved to Spain to continue his studies at the Complutense University of Madrid, deepening his knowledge of anatomy, optics, color theory, and visual perception.

Guillermo Muñoz Vera’s artworks encompass natural and urban landscapes, portraits, still lifes, historical scenes, and references to classical mythology. His paintings are characterized by precise drawing, a sophisticated treatment of light, and detailed representations of textures, materials, and atmospheres, creating compositions with a remarkable sense of spatial depth.

Throughout his career, the artist has explored the possibilities of contemporary realism, incorporating references to classical European painting and the geography of Chile and other regions. His work investigates the relationship between observation, memory, and representation while maintaining a strong connection to the figurative tradition.

Among his most significant projects is Chile hoy (Chile Today), a series of fourteen mural paintings inaugurated in 2005 at La Moneda station of the Santiago Metro. The series depicts diverse Chilean landscapes, from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia.

In addition to his artistic practice, Guillermo Muñoz Vera has played an important role as an educator. As the founder of the Chinchón School of Painting in Spain, he has contributed to the training of painters dedicated to drawing, oil painting, and traditional representational techniques.

His career includes solo and group exhibitions across Europe and the Americas, as well as works commissioned by public institutions. His exploration of light, landscape, and figuration has established him as a prominent figure in Chilean and Spanish contemporary realism.
