Biography

Carlos Salas

Carlos Salas (Pitalito, Huila, 1957) is a Colombian painter who explores abstraction and materiality: colour, texture and form as a way to express emotion. He works in mixed media on plastic canvas and on metal.

He studied architecture at the Universidad de los Andes and then painting and sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, a combination that shows in how he builds space. In 1999 he turned toward figuration, before returning to abstraction.

He showed The Heart of the Matter at White Box in New York (2016), and presented Recuerdos suspendidos in 2019. In May 2026 his work was surveyed in the show Vislumbres in Bogotá. Represented by Galería Duque Arango.
