Born in England into a wealthy family, Carrington defied social expectations to pursue art. In Paris, he joined the surrealist circle where he became involved with Max Ernst, but her life took a turn after World War II. After being admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Spain, she managed to escape and settle in Mexico in 1942, where she found an artistic community of her own and the freedom to develop her work fully.

In Mexico, Carrington became an influential artist, collaborating with such figures as Remedios Varo and Kati Horna. Her pictorial work is characterized by mystical scenes, hybrid beings and references to ancient traditions. In addition to her painting, she wrote novels and short stories. Her sculpture also left an indelible mark.

Leonora Carrington’s legacy is still alive, with exhibitions in renowned museums and a growing interest in her literary work. Her ability to merge art and literature with a mystical and feminist vision consolidated her as one of the most relevant creators of the 20th century.
