Duque Arango at ArtBO 2026: the gallery’s proposal for the Bogotá contemporary art fair
From September 24 to 27, 2026, Bogotá becomes, once again, the meeting point for the international contemporary art circuit in Colombia. Duque Arango Gallery participates in ArtBO 2026 with a selection of seven artists that brings together, in a single space, Colombia’s modern tradition, its historical masters and a consolidated generation of contemporary voices from the region.
What ArtBO is: Bogotá’s main contemporary art fair
ArtBO is the international art fair of Bogotá, organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá as part of its cultural programme. Since its first edition in 2005, it has become the most important art fair in Colombia and one of the key platforms for contemporary Latin American art. Each year it brings together national and international galleries in a single venue, attracts collectors, curators and museum institutions, and functions as the moment in the calendar in which the city concentrates its artistic life.
The fair is organised in several sections that respond to different scales within the ecosystem: Referentes gathers established galleries, while Artecámara hosts curatorial projects by emerging artists selected through open call. Editoriales, Encuentros, Instituciones and Trayectoria complete the map. This architecture turns ArtBO into a living survey of contemporary art in Colombia and of its dialogue with international circuits.

Duque Arango’s proposal in Bogotá at ArtBO 2026: seven artists
For this edition, Duque Arango Gallery presents a selection that articulates three moments of modern and contemporary Latin American art: the great twentieth-century masters, two consolidated figures of Colombian art, and two contemporary voices that are part of the gallery’s active programme. The seven artists in the proposal — Fernando Botero, Alejandro Obregón, Olga de Amaral, David Manzur, Ariel Cabrera, Alejandra Aristizábal and Gustavo Vélez — share a single framework: a curatorial reading that sustains the dialogue between tradition and innovation as an exhibition principle.
Fernando Botero
Fernando Botero (Medellín, 1932 – Monaco, 2023) is the most internationally recognised Colombian artist of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. He developed Boterismo, a pictorial language defined by volumetric monumentality that became a universal signature. The gallery presents his work at the core of its secondary market programme.
Alejandro Obregón
Alejandro Obregón (Barcelona, 1920 – Cartagena, 1992) is considered the father of Colombian modern art. His painting fused expressionism, tropical landscape and political symbolism, building an iconography deeply tied to the Caribbean. His presence at the fair connects the proposal with the foundations of artistic modernity in the country.
Olga de Amaral
Olga de Amaral (Bogotá, 1932) is one of the most important textile artists in contemporary Latin American art and a central figure in international fiber art. Following her recent retrospective at the Fondation Cartier in Paris (2024–2025) and her auction record — US$1.16 million at Phillips New York in May 2025 — her presence at ArtBO 2026 responds to a moment of particular critical and market relevance.
David Manzur
David Manzur (Neira, Caldas, 1929) is one of the great masters of contemporary Colombian art. Trained in New York and Paris, his work combines classical references, equestrian symbols, baroque still lifes and theatrical compositions, executed with a technical virtuosity that has become his signature. Recognised with the National Arts Prize of Colombia, his presence at the fair is an active tribute to his career.
Ariel Cabrera
Ariel Cabrera (Camagüey, Cuba, 1982) is one of the most significant contemporary Cuban painters of his generation. His work rewrites the great narratives of Cuban history — particularly the interwar period and the War of Independence — through the language of classical painting, restoring to them a human, contradictory and often ironic dimension. His presence in the selection expands the gallery’s focus toward the contemporary Cuban and Caribbean scene, in dialogue with the modern genealogy sustained by the great masters.
Alejandra Aristizábal
Alejandra Aristizábal is a Colombian artist whose practice focuses on landscape, memory and materiality. Her work proposes organic atmospheres in which nature, territory and sensory experience are connected through abstract and contemplative processes. Her presence at ArtBO 2026 brings a younger voice to the proposal and reinforces the gallery’s commitment to the contemporary Colombian scene.
Gustavo Vélez
Gustavo Vélez (Medellín, 1975) is one of the Colombian sculptors with the widest international projection. His language — geometry, balance and monumentality in marble, bronze and steel — has just received its public consecration with the diffuse exhibition Le Dimensioni dell’Equilibrio in Pietrasanta (summer 2026). His presence at the fair connects ArtBO with the current European sculpture circuit.
ArtBO | Fin de Semana and Bogotá’s contemporary art exhibitions circuit
The ArtBO programme is not limited to the fair. In its tenth edition, ArtBO | Fin de Semana took place from April 16 to 19, 2026, with free access and programming distributed across eight circuits throughout the city. Among the spaces that regularly form the Historic Centre route are the Claustro de San Agustín — a National University of Colombia venue and one of the most significant buildings of Bogotá’s colonial heritage —, Espacio Odeón, and the Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño (FUGA). The full route extends through Chapinero, La Macarena, Teusaquillo, San Felipe, Nogal, Chicó and Kennedy, drawing a living map of the contemporary art exhibitions on view in Bogotá.
Throughout the year, the city offers a continuous programme of exhibitions at museums and institutions. The Sala de Arte del Banco Colpatria, the curated programme of Espacio Odeón itself, FUGA’s public agenda and the activity of galleries such as Casa Riegner form an ecosystem that, together with the galleries represented at the fair, positions Bogotá as one of the capitals of contemporary art in Latin America.
