Sair García makes a melancholic journey through the Magdalena as if in search of serenity. The spirit of the paintings, between resplendent and nostalgic, leads one to deduce that there is also buried cruelty and sown sadness.
García’s paintings depict the village with its houses that seem to be able to move on their wooden extremities, but in reality rest on a system of pillars inserted into the earth under the calm waters. The vivid and strong colors of the houses seem to dilute in their reflections in the water as the memories dissolve with time, whether beautiful as those of the great salons of Italian Venice, or as painful as those of the massacre that brought the river and decimated the population of New Venice in fateful times, difficult to forget.
